WPmu series: to widgetize?

I was originally going to use widgetized sidebars (ease of updating for non-technical users) but if we do this, there will be no way to push out changes to the sites, so I am opting for a hard-coded sidebar. Updates to the theme can be pushed out to each site, so updating all of the sites at once will be a simpler task.

WPmu Series

I’m going to write a series of posts during development and roll-out of a WPmu site for a client.

It’s kind of a non-standard setup, so I thought it would be interesting to document the decisions that are made during the project.

In this project, we need total control of the layout of the sites – there will be one single theme that each site will use. They will have no control over the theme files, no widget control. They will basically be none-admin users of their blogs. (the client is not just a control freak — we are setting up this project for franchises. The local site will have control over posts, but the branding and theme are to be identical for each site.)

Stay tuned!
